Place - Interior Design

Szilágyi B. András

Space: space provides the place for everything. Space, in which a given object is present, determines the possibilities of the object. Space organises: it is equally bad if it is too little or too much, as an object is squeezed into a small space and is lost in too large a space. The question arises: what do we design – the object or the emptiness? What is space and what is form? Can the two be separated? Since space is also form, except that the latter is smaller. An interior designer also designs spaces, while the virtual spaces of a media designer and the ‘routes’ created by an app designer are also abstract spaces. To what extent do the qualities of a video game’s virtual space differ from the physically implemented spaces designed by an interior designer if they are produced using mostly similar tools? The issue of space is one of the most exciting propositions of the 21st century since the definition of ‘applied arts’ is an intellectual space where debates, ideas and solutions are outlined. Space provides an interpretation, hence this category best characterises those who create contexts: interior designers.
