Miklós Béla SZENTKIRÁLYI

Munkácsy Award-winning restorer artist, Meritorious Artist

Between 1968 and 1973, he studied painting at the Ion Andreescu Academy of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, but his interest gradually turned to the restoration of paintings. Following his studies between 1974 and 1977 he graduated as a painter-restorer from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. From 1975 to 1990 he was a restorer at the Old Hungarian Department of the Hungarian National Gallery, and from 1990 he was Head of the Department of Conservation at the Museum of Fine Arts until his retirement. His work includes the restoration of Mihály Munkácsy’s Christ Trilogy. In addition to his practical work, he also dealt with theoretical issues of restoration. He was the founding chairman of the Association of Hungarian Restorers (MRE), and became a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts in 2011.
