Sándor DOBÁNY

1954, Pécs

ceramic designer

Starting in 1969 he worked in the Zsolnay Porcelain Factory in Pécs for sixteen years, and this closeness with the Zsolnay ceramics of the past defned his way of thinking. He completed his private studies in painting and sculpture. After 1985 he turned his attention to porcelain. He was the name giver and a founder of the Deforma Group, established in 1993, which was active for ten years. After 1989 he began working in the area of building ceramics, and his projects can be found both in Hungary and abroad (Greece and Scotland). Between 2008 and 2010 he was a guest professor at the department of ceramics of the Glasgow School of Art. He has been a member of the Geneva-based IAC (International Academy of Ceramics) since 2011. He received the Noémi Ferenczy Award in 2020. His works can be found in public and private collections both in Hungary and abroad.
