Our primary goal in the selection of the participants and works for the ceramics section was to demonstrate the differences within the genre, while showcasing works representing the most recent ambitions among the wide range of possibilities inherent in ceramic and porcelain as well as among the numerous methods ofworking these materials, which allow a great degree of freedom. We devoted special attention to including a nice number of young artists besides those from the older, established generations. The exhibited works, ranging from pieces with a sculptural character to design solutions, sensitively represent the place occupied by the ceramics profession on the Hungarian art scene, its diversity and ability to respond to a continuously changing environment. We hope they will convince visitors that thanks to their ever-expanding as well as varied technical and formal solutions, they can standtheir ground in the international arena too. They will hopefully also answer questions pertaining to quality and to the profession on the whole, which will allow the artists of this extremely multifaceted branch of art, i.e. the cultivation of material, to meet not only in a physical space but also in a shared intellectual and creative realm.
